The City of Swan

The City of Swan is Perth’s largest local government by land size, covering a huge 1,042 square kilometre area in Perth’s north-east. That’s almost 20% of the Perth metropolitan area. A whopping 42 suburbs are within the City, including established residential areas like Ballajura to huge parks and reserves in the Perth Hills.

The City has one of the fastest growing populations in WA, with the population expected to soar from around 168,000 in 2023 to almost 300,000 by 2050.

Similair to other local governments, the City of Swan is divided into smaller ‘Wards’ for better local representation on the Council. Just like electorates for Parliament.

Voters living in each Ward can only vote for Councillors running in that area. The Mayor is elected by ALL voters across the City of Swan.

Due to the huge land area and population of the City, there are 14 Councillors and 5 Wards. That equals a total of 15 Elected Members - including the Mayor- that represent you in the City of Swan Council.

Whiteman Ward

Whiteman Ward covers the south-western side of the City of Swan, and is named after Whiteman Park and the surrounding area. Whiteman Park gets its name from Mr Lew Whiteman who was one of the major post-colonisation landowners of the area.

The residential areas are mainly Ballajura, with a portion of Bennet Springs around Orchid Park. One of the City’s major industrial precints, Malaga, is also included in the Ward.

Whiteman Ward is represented by 2 Councillors, but ultimately, all of the Council is responsible for the success of the whole City of Swan.

As a Councillor for Whiteman Ward, and a Ballajura local, I’m extremely proud of my community and look forward to working hard as your local representative.

I’m also committed to being accessible to residents and ratepayers, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me and follow my social media.
